Insight

Seeing what the driver cannot

A blind spot stays abstract when you are standing beside a truck. Children know there is danger, but not where the driver’s field of vision ends.

A national awareness day made that hidden risk tangible and gave schools and the transport sector one shared moment.

Approach

Learning beside the truck

At De Wingerd in Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel, PE teacher Daan and instructor Corina brought the message close. Beside the truck, children discovered which areas disappear from the cab’s view.

Result

A first national moment

The first National Stay Out of the Blind Spot Day took place on 12 September 2024. The school setting, truck and cab turned the safety message into one practical experience and laid the foundation for an annual edition.
